Many young people know Germany's recent history only from stories told by their parents, relatives or other acquaintances. The GDR, with all its difficulties, but also with its comforts - with its normality in everyday life - is part of this. Of course, every account reflects the subjectivity of the narrator, since it is primarily about those areas of life that are marked by particular experiences. In our book we show a side of the GDR reality that was not accessible to many people, although we have tried to present many facts as objectively as possible. Our aim is to counteract the glorification of the GDR that has taken place in just a few years compared to today's society in the Federal Republic of Germany, and to inform young people about the problems of the GDR in an easily understandable and interesting way.
